Most of its lyrics come from the Book of Isaiah, hence it is also known by the name "Song of the Prophet". Its triumphant spirit and lyrics are meant to encourage and raise the moral of the faithful during the long spiritual and physical struggle of the Lenten Period. Also note that, "God is with us" is the very meaning of the foretold name of Jesus Christ, that is, "Emmanuel". Title: "Αυγούστου μοναρχήσαντος επί της γής" (When Augustus reigned on earth) Service: Matins of Nativity ~ This particular piece is performed by one of the great masters of Byzantine chant, Simon Karas, and his choir. Karas' research has had a profound influence on byzantine music, and his music school has produced many distinguished musicians and theorists of music, like Lycourgos Angelopoulos, director of the Greek Byzantine Choir. Karas was also notable for his crisp doric voice, a type of voice unusual in chanting tradition.
