Perdere la propria vita, qui e ora, per causa del Signore è l'esatto opposto dell'egoismo: comporta mettere Lui, con i suoi insegnamenti e il suo esempio, al primo posto, a beneficio del prossimo (in primis genitori e figli ma in genere tutti coloro che possiamo aiutare). Sembrerà di sacrificarsi e fare rinunce; in realtà l'amore è premio a se stesso. Provare per credere: gli egoisti, che pensano solo a sé stessi, sono sempre inquieti e insoddisfatti perché non si accontentano mai di ciò che ottengono; chi invece ama disinteressatamente gode di armonia e pace interiore. In ogni caso, Gesù ce lo assicura, se “perdiamo” qui la nostra vita egli ci donerà la possibilità di rifarci abbondantemente nella vita ventura (riceveremo il cento per uno, l'ha promesso).

Losing one's life, here and now, because of the Lord is the exact opposite of selfishness: it involves putting Him, with his teachings and example, in the first place, for the benefit of one's neighbor (primarily parents and children but generally all those we can help). It will feel like sacrificing and giving up; in reality, love is its own reward. Seeing is believing: the selfish, who think only of themselves, are always restless and dissatisfied because they are never satisfied with what they get; on the other hand, those who love unselfishly enjoy harmony and inner peace. In any case, Jesus assures us, if we "lose" our life here, he will give us the possibility of abundantly making up for it in the next life (we will receive one hundred percent, he promised).
