Different [contradicting] religions are needed to “broaden the horizon of truth, according to the model of the polyhedron,” Cardinal George Jacob Koovakad, prefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, said during a September 11 address at the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina (UCA). He urged believers to welcome “as a gift, the action of God in the other religions,” adding that in their “precepts and doctrines” is reflected “a ray of the truth that enlightens all men.” Such “reciprocal appreciation,” he said, “will enrich our own identity through the reception of the other.” Koovakad presented the different religions as jointly contributing to the construction of the “City of God.” Each person, he added, must ask how to collaborate in this “common project of humanity.” Koovakad dreams that “universal fraternity” may become possible.

Italian priest Don Leonardo Pompei was declared excommunicated for schism on September 11 by the Diocese of Latina. The decision follows a penal process conducted under a mandate from the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. The key issue is reflected in Pompei’s own words. In a public broadcast on September 5, 2025, he summarized what he had told his bishop: “I have come to the decision not to continue exercising my ministry within the hierarchical communion of the Catholic Church.”
