Heathcliff apparently become a wealthy, respectable gentleman and now seeks revenge against all those he believes have wronged him. Heathcliff makes loans to Hindley that he knows cannot be repaid. Intent on ruining Edgar, Heathcliff elopes with Edgar's sister, Isabella Linton, setting himself up to inherit Thrushcross Grange. After their marriage, Heathcliff becomes very cruel and abusive towards Isabella.

Sancta Lucia.
Zweden
In het protestantse Zweden is Sankta Luciaop 13 december al twee eeuwen een nationale feestdag. Op die dag vertolkt de oudste dochter des huizes de heilige Lucia en draagt zij een groene krans met brandende kaarsen op haar hoofd. Zij brengt het licht naar ieder vertrek van het huis. Lucia heeft bij dit ritueel de betekenis van lichtkoningin. In de donkere adventstijd is zij de voorbode van het Licht van Christus, geboren in de Kerstnacht. Ook in andere Scandinavische landen wordt Sint-Lucia gevierd.
