At least 20 Christians were killed in an overnight attack on the village of Kawel in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, central Nigeria, police said Monday. Catholic priest Robert Emeršič, 51, died on June 14 after suffering a severe allergic reaction to a wasp sting while celebrating the Eucharist in Planica, Slovenia. He was a priest in the Archdiocese of Maribor and served as the parish priest in Rače. Born on 28 May 1975, he was ordained as a priest in 2008. Following a period as assistant priest in Ravne na Koroškem, he became parish priest in Rače in 2010, taking responsibility for the neighbouring parish in Fram in 2020.
